BBC FOUR defines itself as a channel that delivers cultural capital; a channel brimming over with inspiring, passionate people who come to share their love and expertise for all sorts of different subjects.
We feel The channel is on a mission to discover, create and most importantly champion the interesting, and as such their hallmark is the caption "passionately interesting".
In designing this for their channel rebrand, I set about creating a series of Idents that best reflect this ethos; a place where the interesting happens, delivered with passion; incorporating a range of genres, and unifying all that diversity in one place. I developed a colour palette that added personality, and an identity that was lively, but unashamedly intelligent and full of wit. I sought to illustrate the channel as a destination that showcases eclectic content in a diverse, enticing environment. The concept of guiding the audience through the space is designed to add playfullness and exuberance to the idents.
The vibrant, contemporary flair was also geared towards the additional brief of facilitating the channel's move from a "TV-only" brand to an "always-on" model, whereby it could be accesses on TV, online and even in the real world.
